TV size calculator by viewing distance
Enter how far you sit from the screen and the calculator suggests a size that fills your view without visible pixels. The second mode gives screen dimensions in centimetres and checks a TV niche.

How we calculate
Recommended size
D = distance_cm / (2.54 · k)
16:9 screen dimensions
width = D · 2.54 · 16 / √(16² + 9²) height = D · 2.54 · 9 / √(16² + 9²)
- k is the distance-to-diagonal ratio. “Cinema” k = 1.2 (~40° viewing angle, THX), “comfort” k = 1.6 (~30°, SMPTE). These are starting values under editorial review.
- Closer than a certain distance you see the pixel grid: a pixel is invisible when it spans no more than 1 arcminute (20/20 vision). That is ≈ 1.56× the diagonal for Full HD, ≈ 0.78× for 4K and ≈ 0.39× for 8K. If the viewing style asks you to sit closer, the estimate is capped by resolution.
- Body size = screen + ~1 cm bezel on each side, without the stand. Check the exact model specs.

Frequently asked questions
What TV size do I need at 2.5 m (8 ft)?
For a 4K TV in the comfort mode, about 60 inches — the nearest standard sizes are 58″ and 65″. For a cinema feel, up to 75–85″.
Why does Full HD get a smaller size?
Full HD pixels are larger, so on a big screen viewed up close the grid shows. Sit about 1.6× the diagonal away or pick a smaller screen.
How many centimetres is 55 inches?
A 55″ diagonal is 139.7 cm. A 16:9 screen of that size is ≈ 121.8 cm wide and ≈ 68.5 cm tall.
