Presper On February 8, 2021, the ITC issued a Notice of Investigation in Certain Wireless Communications Equipment and Components Thereof (Inv. No. 337-TA-1247). By way of background, this investigation is based on a January 5, 2021 complaint filed by Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea and Samsung Electronics America, Inc. of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey alleging that Respondents Ericsson AB of Sweden, Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson of Sweden, and Ericsson Inc. of Plano, Texas unlawfully import into the U.S., sell for importation, and/or sell within the U.S. after importation certain wireless communications equipment and components thereof that infringe one or more claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 9,521,616; 10,797,405; 9,041,074; and 9,736,772. Tyson Covey In a significant development for the years-long net neutrality debate, yesterday the U.S. Department of Justice dropped its suit to enjoin California's net neutrality law (SB 822) (No. 2:18-cv-0660, E.D. Cal.). The California law reimposes on broadband Internet Service Providers several requirements the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rescinded in its 2018 Restoring Internet Freedom Order, 33 FCC Rcd 311. For example, the California law prohibits blocking of lawful content, apps, and services; throttling of Internet traffic; and paid prioritization of traffic, and also contains a general prohibition on unreasonable practices. The DOJ sued to enjoin the California statute as being conflict-preempted. Several amici, including groups of scholars and many state Attorneys General, weighed in on both sides, and briefing on the preliminary injunction was complete. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/telecoms-mobile-cable-communications/1035412/doj-drops-challenge-to-california-net-neutrality-law-trade-associations39-case-now-takes-center-stage?email_access=on ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210217162159.5C4B5761@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 17 Feb 2021 16:21:59 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: A 90 Year Old Shouldn't Have To Buy A $10,000 Ad Just To Get AT&T To Upgrade His Shitty DSL Line from the do-not-pass-go,-do-not-collect-$200 dept Wed, Feb 17th 2021 6:35am - Karl Bode Last week I wrote over at Motherboard about 90 years old North Hollywood resident Aaron Epstein, whose family has been an AT&T subscriber since the 1930s. Epstein himself has been a loyal AT&T subscriber since around 1960, and has had the company's DSL service since it was first introduced in the late 90s. Unfortunately for Epstein, much like countless millions of other Americans, his DSL line only delivered speeds of 1.5 to 3 Mbps, and he's been waiting for decades for faster speeds to no avail. To try and nudge AT&T to action, Epstein recently took out a $10,000 ad in the Wall Street Journal just to yell at AT&T CEO John Stankey ... https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20210215/07142846247/90-year-old-shouldnt-have-to-buy-10000-ad-just-to-get-att-to-upgrade-his-shitty-dsl-line.shtml ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210217163844.07F86761@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 17 Feb 2021 16:38:43 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Verizon's $6 Billion bid for TracFone could hurt low-income customers, critics say By Margaret Harding McGill Verizon's $6.2 billion bid to buy wireless company TracFone has raised concerns that the deal could cut off access to affordable mobile phone service. The big picture: The deal has flown under the radar, but TracFone is one of the nation's largest providers of subsidized cell phone service for low income people, an especially important program during the coronavirus pandemic - and one that Verizon hasn't traditionally focused on. https://news.yahoo.com/verizons-6-billion-bid-tracfone-104513709.html ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 18 Feb 2021
