Instead of collecting money themselves for the government's aging Lifeline pro- gram - designed to subsidize telecom services for poor Americas - they want Congress to do it instead. The move is well timed. A pandemic forcing almost everyone to work and school online has helped to elevate Internet connections from nice-to-have to must-have. And the incoming Biden administration has pledged support for universal broadband. https://www.lightreading.com/ossbss/verizon-atandt-want-to-kill-lifeline-/a/d-id/766862 ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210124152512.B6D2B79B@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 24 Jan 2021 15:25:12 +0000 (UTC) From: Telecom Digest Moderator <moder8@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Subject: Verizon shifts retail jobs, offers severance to some employees by Monica Alleven Verizon isn't ditching its corporate-owned store strategy, but it's making changes in the retail side of its business and that's resulted in severance packages being offered. It's unknown how many stores are closing permanently and how many employees are being let go. The changes are occurring nationwide. https://www.fiercewireless.com/operators/verizon-shifts-retail-jobs-offers-severance-to-some-employees ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210124154438.C791079B@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 24 Jan 2021 15:44:38 +0000 (UTC) From: Telecom Digest Moderator <moder8@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Subject: 'It's ugly': Verizon 5G data boxes appear without notice on Houston front lawns By Dwight Silverman Dirk Wijnands and Adeline Pang hadn't paid much attention to the coming 5G wireless data revolution until its building blocks were installed without warning on the couple's Montrose-area lawn. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/article/Streamlined-5G-buildout-puts-ground-15889021.php ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210124163510.8F48779B@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 24 Jan 2021 16:35:10 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Verizon Worker Took Sex Images From Customer's Phone: Authorities The St. Charles man was working at a store in Huntley when he transferred the images to his phone, according to authorities.
