Each plan promises certain download and upload speeds, but how do you know which one is right for you? Those speeds are a big factor in how much you'll shell out for the internet each month. Faster capabilities mean higher costs and you'll pay less for slower speeds. But speed is just one factor when it comes to your internet bill. There are others you might not know about. https://www.komando.com/money-tips/internet-service-costs/699691/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210123204304.3DF38751@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 23 Jan 2021 20:43:04 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: CenturyLink, Frontier Failed to Meet FCC Deadline for Rural Broadband Rollout By Joanna Nelius As part of the Connect America Fund Phase II grants in 2015, the FCC awarded CenturyLink and Frontier a combined total of $789.1 million in federal funds to expand broadband services to rural Americans. Dec. 31 was the deadline for CenturyLink to roll out 10Mbps/1Mbps broadband to 1.17 million homes and businesses in 33 states, while Frontier needed to expand its broadband services to 659,587 homes and business in 28 states. Both companies have failed, again, to meet their broadband deployment deadlines. https://gizmodo.com/centurylink-frontier-failed-to-meet-fcc-deadline-for-r-1846114780 ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210123210251.31494751@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 23 Jan 2021 21:02:51 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: What are those colored hoses? By Jim Parsons If you've driven around the area roads recently, you may have wondered about the crews working along the roadsides with reels of what look like brightly colored, empty, plastic hoses. The hoses are colored orange, blue, and green, and the workers are burying them in sections, leaving a couple of feet at the end of each section poking up out of the ground. https://www.athensmessenger.com/comment/editorials/what-are-those-colored-hoses/article_6744666a-6c82-5cb2-81d3-1ac7de53eb1e.html ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sun, 24 Jan 2021
