No one has yet managed to unseat Amazon Web Services (AWS) from its lofty cloud perch. Fortunately for CenturyLink, it may not need to try. As reported by Bloomberg, CenturyLink is circling Rackspace to add the service-centric cloud provider to its portfolio of cloud services, including Savvis, AppFog, andTier3. With competition for cloud-centric developers fierce, it's unlikely that CenturyLink will make much of a mark with Global 2000 companies interested in moving data center workloads to the public cloud. https://www.techrepublic.com/article/centurylink-may-be-playing-its-cloud-cards-all-wrong/

AT&T has already begun work improving the security, scalability, availability and resiliency of VA's Internet Protocol-based data network with cloud infrastructure. https://www.fedscoop.com/va-att-eis-task-order/ ***** Moderator's Note ***** Oh, wow: the VA and AT&T working together. I suppose this means that VA hospitals will get TWX service to communicate with each other: come to think of it, maybe I can go back to fixing Teletype machines! Bill Horne Moderator

Namely that "big tech" companies get a "free ride" on telecom networks, and, as a result, should throw billions of dollars at "big telecom" for no real reason. You'll recall it was this kind of argument that launched the net neutrality debate, when former AT&T CEO Ed Whitacre proclaimed that Google wouldn't be allowed to "ride his pipes for free." Whitacre was effectively arguing that in addition to paying for bandwidth, tech giants should pay him a troll toll, just because. https://www.techdirt.com/articles/20210602/09445946912/cnet-amplifies-fccs-carrs-attempt-to-force-big-tech-to-pay-big-telecom-no-reason.shtml
