TracFone is now one of the largest providers of Lifeline services, a federal program that makes phone and internet services more affordable for low-income customers, including many seniors. TracFone has approximately 1.7 million low-income subscribers in 43 states and the District of Columbia, or 22 percent of total Lifeline subscribers. By contrast, Verizon only offers its mobile wireless service to Lifeline customers in parts of four states. https://cwa-union.org/news/cwa-raises-concerns-about-verizons-proposed-acquisition-of-tracfone ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20210112163210.1BBDC73C@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 12 Jan 2021 16:32:10 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Verizon will suspend donations to lawmakers who opposed Biden certification By Reuters Staff WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. wireless carrier Verizon Communications will suspend donations by its political action committee to lawmakers who did not back the certification of President-elect Joe Biden's victory last week, a spokesman told Reuters. https://www.reuters.com/article/usa-election-corporate-verizon/verizon-will-suspend-donations-to-lawmakers-who-opposed-biden-certification-idUSL1N2JM2Q4 ------------------------------ Message-ID: <rtgr9l$338$1@shakotay.alphanet.ch> Date: 11 Jan 2021 07:30:13 +0100 From: "Marc SCHAEFER" <schaefer@alphanet.ch> Subject: Re: Analysis: TV providers should not escape scrutiny for distributing disinformation Hello, >From Europe, it seems the US of A is really divided today, and I do not remember when it happened last (maybe the war against Vietnam and then Nixon resgination?). Even during the George W. years and the weapon of mass destructions chase, the situation was better in the US internally. It is certainly very difficult to do anything in a country so divided. It also happened in UK with the almost 50/50 Brexit Referendum in 2016 and you could see during the last 5 years that most of UK problems were actually internal problems, and still are: Gibraltar apparently negociated separately with Spain now to integrate the EU Schengen Area; The City did not get the agreement they wanted; Scotland has not settled yet what they are going to do. >From Europe, I fail to see any of US TV channels (be it CNN, CNBC, Fox news) as `left'. CNN is probably the most leftish news channel to the US viewers. From a Swiss perspective, I would place it on the right or center-right scale for social issues, and definitely on the right for economic issues. And there was a study published lately that shown that Switzerland constantly moved to the right in the last two decades, so you see :) Open your arm, start to see your neighbour as a friend, ponder what Donald Trump really did to your country, think again! I am sure the USA can recover from those four years. ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 13 Jan 2021
