Generally speaking long term investing is the way to go. But no-one is immune from buying too high. To wit, the CenturyLink, Inc. share price managed to fall 74% over five long years. That's an unpleasant experience for long term holders. Furthermore, it's down 28% in about a quarter. That's not much fun for holders. However, one could argue that the price has been influenced by the general market, which is down 19% in the same timeframe. https://simplywall.st/stocks/us/telecom/nyse-ctl/centurylink/news/did-changing-sentiment-drive-centurylinks-nysectl-share-price-down-a-painful-74/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200410155910.GA31331@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2020 15:59:10 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: AT&T Reveals COVID-19 Impact on Networks: Traffic is Way Up The use of AT&T and its FirstNet network for first responders has increased overall and especially for voice, with Wi-Fi calling doubled over that of a typical pre-coronavirus day. By Eric Griffith AT&T has provided its latest network insights with data right up to April 8, 2020, showing percentage increases across the board brought on by the ongoing COVID-19 quarantine happening in most cities and major industries in the US. https://www.pcmag.com/news/att-reveals-covid-19-impact-on-networks-traffic-is-way-up -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200410160636.GA31385@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2020 16:06:36 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: After weeks, people in Tippah and Benton County still affected by cell phone outages By Tina Campbell Meadows RIPLEY - Social distancing has become complete social isolation for some in Tippah and Benton County. COVID-19 has many people sheltering in place, having no physical contact with friends and family for weeks. People are relying on their phones more than ever to keep in touch with loved ones. For some, the cell phone is their only means of contacting relatives, reporting emergencies and browsing the internet. In rural areas, cell phone coverage is often unreliable, but what happens when cell phone towers do not work at all? AT&T customers in Blue Mountain, Gravestown and Hickory Flat have found that out at the most inconvenient time. https://www.djournal.com/tippah/news/after-weeks-people-in-tippah-and-benton-county-still-affected-by-cell-phone-outages/article_cdcfe2f7-cc30-5c4b-924e-d74abf95fa1c.html -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200410160214.GA31359@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 10 Apr 2020 16:02:14 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: AT&T Feud With FreeConferenceCall.com Heats Up The coronavirus pandemic has inflamed tensions between the telecom behemoth and a popular conferencing service By Amy Nordrum Dave Erickson is finding it difficult to make it to meetings on time. When he dials into the conference call service that his company uses, he often gets a busy signal on his first try. He may have to dial 10 times before he gets through. It's frustrating, he says - especially since he's the founder and CEO of the company that operates the service, known as FreeConferenceCall.com. https://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/telecom/wireless/att-feud-freeconferencecallcom-heats-up -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 11 Apr 2020
