(KUTV) - On Thursday, a group of 50 Pleasant Grove, Utah elementary school children were on a call with the school's principal when the conference was "Zoom-bombed" with pornography. https://ktul.com/news/nation-world/after-utah-children-zoom-bombed-with-porn-heres-how-to-secure-your-zoom-meetings-1 -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200405034826.GA29911@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 5 Apr 2020 03:48:26 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Idaho Department of Corrections rolls out video calls after suspending in-person visits due to COVID-19 Inmates in Idaho prisons can now speak with their families via video, after the Idaho Department of Correction last month ceased in-person visits in an effort to slow the spread of the new coronavirus. Video visitations are available to inmates at all of the department's facilities, according to Idaho Department of Correction Director Josh Tewalt. Inmates receive one free video call a month; after that, the cost is $4.99 for a 15-minute call. The department worked with CenturyLink and the corrections communications provider JPay to provide the service. https://www.idahopress.com/news/local/idoc-rolls-out-video-calls-after-suspending-in-person-visits-due-to-covid-19/article_e8db5bc1-3a24-5b1e-93c2-40c041620554.html -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <64325B80-C007-43CD-912D-55FA84F2C722@roscom.com> Date: 3 Apr 2020 13:31:33 -0400 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Zoom's Encryption Is "Not Suited For Secrets" Zoom's Flawed Encryption Linked to China https://theintercept.com/2020/04/03/zooms-encryption-is-not-suited-for-secrets-and-has-surprising-links-to-china-researchers-discover/ Move Fast & Roll Your Own Crypto: A Quick Look at the Confidentiality of Zoom Meetings https://citizenlab.ca/2020/04/move-fast-roll-your-own-crypto-a-quick-look-at-the-confidentiality-of-zoom-meetings/ ***** Moderator's Note ***** It doesn't matter if the "flawed encryption" is linked to China. What matters is that it might be flawed. So long as cryptographic research is conducted in secret, and subject to U.S. government monitoring and restrictions, the NSA will always be able to slip in a weakness or back-door that only they know about. Don't be afraid of China: it's the guy across the street that steals your secrets, and any communications channel used for carrying confidential corporate information should be safeguarded at the highest level possible.
