The company blamed third-party network equipment for the outage, as well as the delayed restoration. Some 911 calls didn't go through as a result of the fiasco. Now CenturyLink is paying the price. https://www.channelpartnersonline.com/2020/12/18/top-stories-of-the-week-verizon-frontier-centurylink-windstream-tbi/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201217203850.ED0CA755@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2020 20:38:50 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Mobile Platforms To Block Data Broker From Collecting User Location Data by Jeffrey D. Neuburger On December 9, 2020, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple and Google will block the data broker X-Mode Social Inc. ("X-Mode") from collecting location data from iPhone and Android users. Apple and Google have reportedly informed app developers to remove the X-Mode social tracking SDK from all of their apps within a short period of time or risk removal from the platforms' app stores. This action apparently was prompted by reports that X-Mode was selling location data to certain defense contractors and government entities. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/telecoms-mobile-cable-communications/1016188/mobile-platforms-to-block-data-broker-from-collecting-user-location-data?email_access=on ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201219014350.950B6774@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 19 Dec 2020 01:43:50 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: CenturyLink Outage in Bakersville, Mitchell County, North Carolina Brandi Williams - 3 hours ago Been without internet since around 10am 12/17/20, still waiting on them to text me that the outage is fixed.(12/18/20 4:20pm) Hope they reimburse their users for services that were not provided, which we all know won't happen. https://istheservicedown.com/problems/centurylink/4453467-bakersville-mitchell-county-north-carolina-united-states ***** Moderator's Note ***** Anywho.com doesn't show any listing for "Brandi Williams" in Bakersville, NC Bill Horne Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201217205547.EAFE0755@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 17 Dec 2020 20:55:47 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Supreme Court Hears Oral Argument Over The TCPA's Definition Of An Autodialer by Steve A. Augustino , Alysa Zeltzer Hutnik , Lauri A. Mazzuchetti , Paul Rosenthal , Whitney M. Smith , Jewel Tewiah and Julia Schuurman For the second time this year, the TCPA came before the Supreme Court via teleconference oral argument in Facebook, Inc. v. Duguid, et al, Case No. 19-511 (2020). The Supreme Court's disposition of Facebook's petition is expected to resolve a widening Circuit split over what qualifies as an automatic telephone dialing system ("ATDS") under the TCPA, 47 U.S.C. § 227, et seq., and thus determine much of the scope of the TCPA's calling restrictions. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/telecoms-mobile-cable-communications/1015360/supreme-court-hears-oral-argument-over-the-tcpa39s-definition-of-an-autodialer?email_access=on ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 19 Dec 2020
