Pacific Power restored power to residents after working day and night. Phone service provided by CenturyLink, however, is still out. There has not even been a sighting of a CenturyLink vehicle. I realize they must be busy, but shouldn't we expect some effort? What's the problem? - Hugh, Butte Falls Highway We reached out to CenturyLink, which is now called Lumen Technologies, about the continued lack of service in the Butte Falls Highway area. "We certainly understand the frustrations of these customers devastated by the fires. Dealing with the loss of homes and belongings is more than frustrating, and we are working to bring some semblances of normalcy back as quickly as possible. This process has been complicated by not only our central office but also our infrastructure burning. This includes phone and internet connectivity," said Lumen Technologies Senior Communications Manager Kerry Zimmer. https://mailtribune.com/news/since-you-asked/some-centurylink-customers-still-without-phone-internet ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201212235203.29F95745@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 12 Dec 2020 23:52:03 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: iPhone Cellular Modem: Can Apple Really Compete With Qualcomm On 5G? After replacing Intel processors in Mac computers, Apple now seems to be making its own 5G modem to take over Qualcomm's place on an iPhone. By Alan Truly Apple is said to be making its own 5G modem in order to replace the Qualcomm technology that handles cellular communications in an iPhone. Apple recently started replacing Intel processors with its own chips in its Mac computer line, so this move isn't unprecedented. Also, Apple doesn't like to be reliant on other companies for such a critical part of the iPhone. The company frequently sources parts from more than one manufacturing partner to ensure timely delivery and quality. https://screenrant.com/iphone-modem-apple-qualcomm-5g-chip/ ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sun, 13 Dec 2020
