The report finds that the partnership was executed as a backroom deal that stands to benefit the company instead of centering the connectivity needs of all San Diegans. The report also highlights how the agreement fails San Diego workers. https://cwa-union.org/news/cwa-report-corporate-giveaways-verizon-leave-san-diegans-behind ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201108231242.E84334E8@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 8 Nov 2020 23:12:42 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Fair 5G Webinar Exposes San Diego's Backroom Deal with Verizon September 24, 2020 Last week, Fair 5G, a CWA project, held a webinar exposing Verizon's empty promises regarding the 5G rollout in San Diego. On the webinar, Vice Presidents from both the San Diego Unified School Board and San Ysidro School Board shed light on how the digital divide continues to affect students during this all-virtual school year, and why they believe 5G was never meant to reach their school communities. https://cwa-union.org/news/fair-5g-webinar-exposes-san-diegos-backroom-deal-verizon ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201108231052.02C994E8@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 8 Nov 2020 23:10:51 +0000 (UTC) From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: NLRB Issues Complaint against Verizon for Violating Federal Labor Law April 30, 2020 The National Labor Relations Board's Phoenix, Ariz., regional office has issued a complaint against Verizon Wireless for violating federal labor law. The complaint stems from a charge filed by CWA after an HR representative interrogated employees at a Verizon Wireless call center in Chandler, Ariz., in October. The employees targeted for interrogation had signed a petition calling on Verizon to implement in-person anti-racism training across the entire company. https://cwa-union.org/news/nlrb-issues-complaint-against-verizon-for-violating-federal-labor-law ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20201108224523.GA1180@telecomdigest.net> Date: Sun, 8 Nov 2020 22:45:23 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: CWA members push AT&T for work from home after call center COVID-19 outbreak Despite 30 employees at an AT&T call center in Tustin, CA testing positive for COVID-19 and a probable fatality from the disease, AT&T has not agreed to allow all employees at the center to work from home. While AT&T management at the facility initially claimed that the outbreak was not a result of exposure at work, CWA members worked together to trace contacts and map the workplace to show the pattern of cases. Confronted with this clear evidence, and a CWA rally outside of the call center which increased public awareness of the situation, AT&T closed the building for two weeks and the workers will receive paid leave. https://speedmatters.org/news/cwa-members-push-att-work-home-after-call-center-covid-19-outbreak ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 11 Nov 2020
