In most contexts, highfalutin coastal states like California, New York and Massachusetts would object to the "other states" reference, but when it comes to battling robocalls, the State AGs of North Carolina and Indiana have certainly earned a special mention. https://www.natlawreview.com/article/congress-delivered-state-ags-heap-praise-tcpa-amicus-brief-to-supreme-court-facebook -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <86h7qfv09w.fsf@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: 27 Oct 2020 21:15:07 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: DoD's Interim Rule on CMMC: Phased Rollout to Immediately Impact Many Federal Contractors On Sept. 29, 2020, the Department of Defense (DoD) issued an interim rule, Assessing Contractor Implementation of Cybersecurity Requirements (DFARS Case 2019-D041), that implements its "Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification" (CMMC) program.1 While this implementing regulation has been long-awaited, it also contains an unexpected new cybersecurity assessment requirement that will be effective this coming Nov. 30. During the CMMC roll-out period, contractors not subject to the new CMMC requirement nonetheless will be required to self-assess (or have DoD assess) their current cybersecurity compliance and report that status to a DoD website prior to any new DoD contract award or DoD's exercise of any contract option or extension of contract performance. https://www.natlawreview.com/article/dod-s-interim-rule-cmmc-phased-rollout-to-immediately-impact-many-federal -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <Pine.NEB.4.64.2010290110450.25584@panix5.panix.com> Date: 29 Oct 2020 01:11:08 +0000 From: "danny burstein" <dannyb@panix.com> Subject: Those ^*$&#^%^)#& who made fake election robo-calls? Well... [Detroit Free Press] Right-wing activists accused of misleading robocalls ordered to issue new robocalls A pair of right-wing activists accused of organizing and releasing tens of thousands of robocalls that included inaccurate information about mail-in voting have been ordered to distribute new calls with accurate information. In a ruling from a federal judge in New York, Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman need to include language in their new robocall that in part states their previous call "contained false information that has had the effect of intimidating voters, and thus interfering with the upcoming presidential election, in violation of federal voting-rights laws." ========= rest: https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/elections/2020/10/28/conservative-misleading-robocalls-michigan/6061996002/ dannyb is just kind of shaking his head here... _____________________________________________________ Knowledge may be power, but communications is the key dannyb@panix.com [to foil spammers, my address has been double rot-13 encoded] ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Fri, 30 Oct 2020
