Fox, Scott Thompson, Angela Y. Kung, Daniel P. Reing and Christen B'anca Glenn The next-generation of wireless technologies - known as 5G - is here. Not only is it expected to offer network speeds that are up to 100 times faster than 4G LTE and reduce latency to nearly zero, it will allow networks to handle 100 times the number of connected devices, revolutionizing business and consumer connectivity and enabling the "Internet of Things." Leading policymakers - federal regulators and legislators - are making it a top priority to ensure that the wireless industry has the tools it needs to maintain U.S. leadership in commercial 5G deployments. This blog provides monthly updates on FCC actions and Congressional efforts to win the race to 5G. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/telecoms-mobile-cable-communications/991616/what39s-new-in-5g--october-2020 -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <86v9fg4m2a.fsf@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: 11 Oct 2020 19:09:01 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: OFAC Adds Syrian Entities To SDN List by Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP OFAC designated Emma Tel LLC ("Emma Tel"), a telecommunications provider, along with twelve other entities and two individuals, to the Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List ("SDN List"). The designations were in response to efforts by the identified entities to assist the regime of Bashar al-Assad. https://www.mondaq.com/unitedstates/export-controls-trade-investment-sanctions/990794/ofac-adds-syrian-entities-to-sdn-list?email_access=on -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <CAH8yC8km9TxEHx3SjFDWdZOP37HkKvLHWFJzKQi97=P7=rEYLw@mail.gmail.com> Date: 11 Oct 2020 13:33:18 -0400 From: "Jeffrey Walton" <noloader@gmail.com> Subject: Comments on FCC TCPA Exemptions Proposal Due Oct. 26 The Federal Communications Commission's comment deadline for a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to review Telephone Consumer Protection Act exemptions required by the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act is Oct. 26, according to the Oct. 9 notice in the Federal Register. The exemptions may cover debt collection calls. Section eight of the TRACED Act requires the FCC to periodically review any exemptions granted under the TCPA and update them as needed. The scope of this NPRM will have industry-wide significance for callers in the accounts receivable management (ARM) industry. According to the FCC, the NPRM includes proposed measures to implement section eight of the TRACED Act and seek comment on how we can best implement it. Specifically, as directed by the TRACED Act, the FCC seeks to ensure that any exemption adopted includes requirements with respect to the classes of parties that may make such calls; the classes of parties that may be called; and the number of such calls that may be made to a particular called party, according to the NPRM. https://www.acainternational.org/news/comments-on-fcc-tcpa-exemptions-proposal-due-oct-26 ***** Moderator's Note ***** The URL above points to a site associated with the debt-collection industry.
