PAUL - The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Emergency Commun- ication Networks division (DPS-ECN) is in contact with the state's contracted 911 service provider, CenturyLink, to determine the cause behind a multi-state 911 outage on Sept. 28. According to CenturyLink's preliminary review, 135 calls to 24 Minnesota public safety answering points (PSAPs) failed to be routed during the 48-minute disruption. In its own preliminary review, DPS-ECN believes the outage was longer and that a number of 911 calls that failed to be routed were not included in the list. https://www.austindailyherald.com/2020/10/investigation-into-multi-state-911-outage/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <86k0w83z3x.fsf@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: 3 Oct 2020 00:57:38 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Conservative operatives face felony charges in connection with robocalls seeking to mislead voters By Meryl Kornfield Two right-wing operatives infamous for inventing outlandish conspiracy theories face felony charges in Michigan for allegedly intimidating voters with inaccurate robocalls that discouraged residents in urban areas from casting their ballots by mail. Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman were charged with four felonies of intimidating voters, conspiring to violate election law and using a computer to commit a crime, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced Thursday. Thousands of residents from at least five states received the robocall aimed at discouraging absentee voting at a time when many Americans are expected to vote by mail rather than in person during the coronavirus pandemic. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2020/10/01/wohl-robocall-michigan/?fbclid=IwAR1yw2SD4uRjWLMJ_6iiTvUToT49GcFG0dg4hoCmrOlMQcnjMAaVdvo_3lo -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <43acd3bd-5dd2-164e-cad0-58c3f2a5bb97@att.net> Date: 1 Oct 2020 12:23:14 -0700 From: "John David Galt" <jdgalt@att.net> Subject: Re: Verizon scrambling to unload HuffPost as losses mount > On Tue, Sep 29, 2020 at 1:25 PM Moderator wrote: >> Verizon has been quietly scrambling to unload HuffPost as it grapples >> with continued losses at the left-leaning news and culture website, The >> Post has learned. Meat packaging plants? You appear to be way behind the times. Verizon is one of six companies that control 90% of all communications industries worldwide -- not only telecom but the Internet, radio and television, book and music publishing, movies both in theaters and online, and newspapers too. Why do you think "cancel culture" is managing to silence so many people? Add to those six, Google, Facebook, and Twitter, and Mastercard and Visa, and you've got a cartel with a scary level of ability to punish people for disagreeing with the party line. That ability needs to go away. ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sun, 04 Oct 2020
