Friends were able to verify that this small piece of history is now itself sort of a museum. I was able to find the following news story and others like it that described what transpired about three years ago. https://www.mprnews.org/story/2017/10/27/lanesboror-turns-phone-booth-into-time-machine ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200823192654.GA29846@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 23 Aug 2020 19:26:54 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Sprint Reaches the Finish Line: The Rise and Fall of an American Telco By Tom Leins On April 1, T-Mobile US and Sprint Corporation completed their long-awaited merger. It was the beginning of the end for the familiar Sprint brand. https://blog.telegeography.com/sprint-reaches-the-finish-line-the-rise-and-fall-of-an-american-telco -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200823193850.GA29929@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sun, 23 Aug 2020 19:38:50 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Paying extra for a Verizon UW 5G phone is just throwing money away Verizon's in a tough spectrum spot, but that doesn't mean you should pay the price By Ryan Whitwam 2020 has been hard enough with all the political, economic, and public health crises we've had to deal with. It turns out, 2020 was also supposed to be The Year Of 5G, at least as far as our wireless carriers are concerned. We've talked about the 5G tax we're paying to get the latest mobile chipsets, but if you're on Verizon, you could be getting screwed in an even worse, and arguably much stupider way by the next generation of wireless networks. Verizon is still all-in with an expensive technology called millimeter wave (mmWave) 5G, and not all phones support it. https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/08/22/paying-extra-for-a-verizon-uw-5g-phone-is-just-throwing-money-away/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Mon, 24 Aug 2020
