And, indeed, when my power failed here in Stamford during Isaias, the POTS line continued to work [but] the backup battery on my VOIP and Internet gave out. I don't recall what the old standards for the CO backup power were, but I expected 24 hours - probably quite a bit more. Hah. Within about 8 hours, the POTS line was dead. Now, it's certainly possible that this was independent line damage - but it was many hours after the storm itself passed, and there were no nearby line cuts in the area. (We had a large tree supported by communications lines leaning completely over a nearby road - but the POTS line came back when our power came back, several days before crews finally got to that tree.) Of course, you only need to walk around the neighborhood a bit to see the sorry state of Frontier's external plant. Maintenance? Not a priority. -- Jerry ------------------------------ Message-ID: <ba5c907f-f025-0402-92dd-769f65a843e3@gmail.com> Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2020 14:09:08 -0500 From: Bill Horne <malaQssimRilatMion@gmail.com> Subject: New Jersey Supreme Court decision about cell phone encryption NJ supremes decide the 5th amendment doesn't apply to those whom can't afford government level encryption. https://tinyurl.com/y3teuoeu -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200814015842.GA17541@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 14 Aug 2020 01:58:42 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: NE: Public Service Commission hearing complaints about CenturyLink The Nebraska Public Service Commission will hold a second hearing in Oshkosh later this month on service quality complaints made by customers of CenturyLink.
