So where is my internet? By Ben Lambert While some Connecticut residents have had power restored in the wake of Tropical Storm Isaias, they still might not have internet access. Internet providers said local issues, as well as power outages linked to the storm, are prompting some customers to remain off line on Thursday. https://tinyurl.com/y23fa9ub -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200812175803.GA10946@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2020 17:58:03 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: New York State Leaders Finally Realize U.S. Broadband Availability Data Is Hot Garbage from the can't-fix-what-you-don't-understand dept By Karl Bode We've noted for years how, despite a lot of pretense to the contrary, the federal government doesn't actually know where broadband is or isn't available. The FCC usually doesn't independently confirm that ISP-provided data is accurate, and the agency declares an entire area "served" with broadband if just one home in a zip code has service. Efforts to fix this problem have historically been undermined by telecom lobbying, since incumbent ISPs aren't keen on further highlighting the profound lack of competition (and high prices) that plague the sector. https://tinyurl.com/yyd27ca3 -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200812163929.GA10513@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 12 Aug 2020 16:39:29 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: NE: PSC reminds Garden & Deuel County residents of August 19 hearing By Nebraska Public Service Commission Lincoln, Neb. - AUGUST 10, 2020 - The Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC) would like to remind residents in the telephone exchanges of Oshkosh, Lewellen and Chappell that the PSC will hold a hearing beginning at 12:30 p.m. (MDT), Wednesday, August 19, at the Oshkosh Auditorium, 600 W. 2nd Street, in Oshkosh. Ryan Green is the president of Kaniksu Networks, a small internet provider that has about 450 customers in the area east of Sandpoint, including Hope and Clark Fork. https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2020/aug/10/bonner-county-wireless-company-raises-concerns-fed/ ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 13 Aug 2020
