Should Denver city government enter the internet business to compete with Comcast and CenturyLink? Voters will get a say in November. Denver voters will be asked opt the city out of a 2005 state law prohibiting the use of tax dollars to build municipal internet systems By Conrad Swanson Denver City Councilman Paul Kashmann estimates as much as a fifth of Denver's homes are without high-speed internet, a serious gap in coverage during the work-from-home and online education era sparked by the novel coronavirus pandemic. So Kashmann led a push to ask city voters to approve a November ballot question that would allow Denver to enter the internet provider business. It's a move that could cost an estimated $1 billion and take years to complete while putting the city in direct competition with Comcast and CenturyLink. https://www.denverpost.com/2020/08/01/denver-municipal-internet/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <CAH8yC8m-jhw3OJ462Rm+7XOuZkUBMxeoi0dX-Kc_HRG2Y4D1DQ@mail.gmail.com> Date: 1 Aug 2020 17:07:50 -0400 From: "Jeffrey Walton" <noloader@gmail.com> Subject: Re: FTC changes access to Do Not Call (DNC) Reported Calls Data On Sat, Aug 1, 2020 at 4:51 PM Mark G Thomas <Mark@misty.com> wrote: > ... > > > > The FTC web site directs visitors to an application page in order to > > obtain an API key. T-Mobile did not immediately respond to a request for comment or explain how it's going to honor commitments made prior to the merger that the combined entity would result in more jobs, not fewer. Mergers typically lead to the elimination of redundant positions and in the case of wireless, redundant stores are closed as well. https://www.fiercewireless.com/operators/t-mobile-lays-off-hundreds-sprint-employees-report ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Mon, 03 Aug 2020
