Today is the day that the relief measures to 'Keep Americans Connected' are beginning to be pulled, though, with the carriers getting back to the task of making money. https://www.talkandroid.com/354505-verizon-att-and-t-mobile-end-covid-19-benefits-today/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200630155501.GA13605@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 30 Jun 2020 15:55:01 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Watch the first videoconference, which took place 50 years ago today The Zoom of its time, AT&T's Picturephone II went live on June 30, 1970, in Pittsburgh. By Harry Mccracken In 1964, AT&T unveiled its Picturephone--a telephone with video as well as audio--at the New York World's Fair and at Disneyland. It was an iconic moment for personal technology. But when the company then launched a commercial video-calling service, you had to go to one of three Picturephone stations in the U.S.--New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago--and pay at least $16 to make a three-minute call. So it was no shocker that this service didn't exactly change the world. https://www.fastcompany.com/90522554/watch-the-first-videoconference-which-took-place-50-years-ago-today -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200630160840.GA13654@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 30 Jun 2020 16:08:40 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: The unhappy history of working from home Three months after the coronavirus pandemic shut down offices, corporate America has concluded that working from home is working out. Many employees will be tethered to Zoom and Slack for the rest of their careers, their commute accomplished in seconds. Richard Laermer has some advice for all the companies rushing pell-mell into this remote future: Don't be an idiot. https://finance-commerce.com/2020/06/the-unhappy-history-of-working-from-home/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Wed, 01 Jul 2020
