They live in a rural area where internet service is spotty. "We never can really use our laptops or anything like that, so it kind of just scrolls and we can't get a good connection," said Barnard. https://www.nbcdfw.com/news/nbc-5-responds/nbc-5-responds-new-wireless-plan-made-consumers-bill-jump-1200/2373110/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200521174743.GA6856@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 21 May 2020 17:47:43 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Puerto Rico Fake News Law Faces Challenge by Wendy Davis A new Puerto Rico law criminalizing false statements about emergencies like COVID-19 is unconstitutional, two journalists claim in a lawsuit brought Wednesday. "Plaintiffs reasonably fear that their investigative reporting about the COVID-19 public health emergency, as well as future reporting on other emergencies, could expose them to criminal prosecution," radio host Sandra Rodriguez-Cotto and independent journalist Rafelli Gonzalez-Cotto allege in a complaint brought in U.S. District Court in Puerto Rico. https://www.mediapost.com/publications/article/351661/puerto-rico-fake-news-law-faces-challenge.html -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200521171515.GA6661@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 21 May 2020 17:15:15 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Verizon Data Breach Report: DoS Skyrockets, Espionage Dips Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks have spiked over the past year, while cyber-espionage campaigns have spiraled downwards. That's according to Verizon's 2020 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR) released Tuesday, which analyzed 32,002 security incidents and 3,950 data breaches across 16 industry verticals. Notably, this year DoS attacks increased in number (13,000 incidents) and were also seen as a bigger part of cybercriminals' toolboxes (DoS attacks made up 40 percent of security incidents reported), beating out crimeware and web applications. While DoS attacks use differing tactics, they most commonly involve sending junk network traffic to overwhelm and crash systems. https://ctovision.com/verizon-data-breach-report-dos-skyrockets-espionage-dips/ -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20200521174129.GA6749@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 21 May 2020 17:41:29 +0000 From: Moderator <telecomdigestsubmissions@remove-this.telecom-digest.org> Subject: AT&T is ditching its false '5G Evolution' branding, but the '5GE' icon isn't going away It has been recommended to discontinue the '5G Evolution' and '5G Evolution, The First Step to 5G' claims by the NARB. What you need to know * The National Advertising Review Board (NARB) has recommended that AT&T stop using the misleading "5G Evolution" term for its LTE network. * AT&T will no longer advertise its upgraded LTE network as "5G Evolution." * The "5GE" icon, however, will not disappear from Android smartphones on its network. https://www.androidcentral.com/att-ditch-its-false-5g-evolution-branding-5ge-icon-isnt-going-away -- Bill Horne Telecom Digest Moderator ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Fri, 22 May 2020
