Being able to go out of radio range is an experience that I fear may be short-lived. I wish we were able to not squander it. -- Ęstrid ***** Moderator's Note ***** No offense: I share your love of the great outdoors, and enjoy the quiet solitude of a walk in the woods. I feel it's important to remember that your goal of being out of radio range is as close as your cell phone's "off" button. Today, the FCC shared a "notice of proposed rulemaking," which requests comments on proposed solutions, like allowing voice service providers to block calls that are "highly likely" associated with one-ring scams. https://www.engadget.com/fcc-robocalls-scams-one-ring-170119831.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <ACC1A486-0338-4797-91C4-946495E6E82A@roscom.com> Date: 30 Apr 2020 12:48:45 -0400 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: States Made It Harder to Get Jobless Benefits. Now That's Hard to Undo States Made It Harder to Get Jobless Benefits. Now That's Hard to Undo. By Emily Badger and Alicia Parlapiano Systems that were devised to treat each case as potentially fraudulent are now rushing to deal with millions of newly unemployed people. The state unemployment systems that were supposed to help millions of jobless workers were full of boxes to check and mandates to meet that couldn't possibly apply in a pandemic. States required workers to document their job searches, weekly; to register with employment services, in person; to take a wait period before their first check, up to 10 days. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/30/upshot/unemployment-state-restrictions-pandemic.html ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 02 May 2020
