By Malena Carollo The city of Tampa is suing Frontier Communications of America and Verizon Florida for allegedly causing nearly $100,000 in damages to underground wastewater lines over a three-year period. In a lawsuit filed last week, the city detailed 37 instances between 2015 and 2018 when cable and phone provider Frontier and its predecessor, Verizon, allegedly damaged wastewater pipes while installing fiber optic lines throughout the city. The lines provide faster cable TV and phone service. https://www.tampabay.com/business/city-of-tampa-sues-frontier-and-verizon-for-damage-to-pipes-20190206/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <F90B8572-21C2-4659-AAC9-7FB17B59A15F@roscom.com> Date: 8 Feb 2019 00:58:30 -0500 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Many popular iPhone apps secretly record your screen without asking Many major companies, like Air Canada, Hollister and Expedia, are recording every tap and swipe you make on their iPhone apps. In most cases you won't even realize it. And they don't need to ask for permission. You can assume that most apps are collecting data on you. Some even monetize your data without your knowledge. But TechCrunch has found several popular iPhone apps, from hoteliers, travel sites, airlines, cell phone carriers, banks and financiers, that don't ask or make it clear - if at all - that they know exactly how you're using their apps. https://techcrunch.com/2019/02/06/iphone-session-replay-screenshots/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190207173919.GA10870@telecom2018.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2019 17:39:19 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: San Francisco gas line explosion sends flames into the air, sets five buildings on fire By Laura Waxmann Flames shot 40 feet into the air Wednesday afternoon as the San Francisco Fire Department worked to contain fire from a gas line explosion at Geary Boulevard and Parker Avenue. The fire, which appears to have been caused by a third-party contractor working [for Verizon] in the area, initially affected four buildings but later spread to a fifth building across the street, according to Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White. http://www.sfexaminer.com/fire-department-responding-explosion-geary-boulevard/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 09 Feb 2019
