PORTLAND, Ore. - A Portland lawyer has organized a class action lawsuit against AT&T over a billing surcharge. AT&T charged its Portland customers in their monthly bills for the city's Clean Energy Fund surcharge, as Willamette Week and the Oregonian have reported. https://www.kgw.com/article/news/local/portland-clean-energy-fund-att-surcharge/283-145fcfe6-66c1-4ab4-8929-23a3afb0b9af -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20191018150623.GA16491@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 18 Oct 2019 15:06:23 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: 11th Circ. Lets AT&T Off The Hook Over Soured Deal Law360 (October 17, 2019, 8:36 PM EDT) -- AT&T can't be sued in Georgia for failing to make good on its promises to fund the launch of an online news streaming company because the startup waited too long to bring the suit, the Eleventh Circuit has decided. An Eleventh Circuit panel on Wednesday said it didn't buy My24HourNews.com Inc.'s argument that the clock on the statute of limitations started ticking once the startup learned it hadn't been dealing with AT&T directly but rather with third-party contractors that concealed that fact from the news streaming company. https://www.law360.com/articles/1210405/11th-circ-lets-at-t-off-the-hook-over-soured-deal -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <E8FC7397-D57D-4746-8201-E402DFB1D584@roscom.com> Date: 18 Oct 2019 02:46:53 -0400 From: "Monty Solomon" <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Lebanon plans to charge a fee for internet voice calls FaceTime and WhatsApp could cost you. By Jon Fingas If you're planning a trip to Beirut, you might want to think carefully about starting an internet phone call. Lebanon's cabinet has agreed to implement a 20-cent daily fee for VoIP calls across a range of services, including FaceTime Audio and WhatsApp. The government believes it needs the cash -- it recently declared an "economic emergency" as it raced to secure funding and eliminate debts, and the internet calling fee is estimated to rake in a substantial $200 million per year. https://www.engadget.com/2019/10/17/lebanon-whatsapp-tax/ ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 19 Oct 2019
