By Clifford Colby And another one's gone. With the Justice Department signing off on T-Mobile's $26.5 billion acquisition of Sprint in July, and with the Federal Communications Commission set to vote on the merger soon, the number of nationwide wireless mobile carriers will drop to three, for the moment. With the merger moving ahead, you might wonder if now is the time to switch to T-Mobile. Joined together, the newly formed company has the potential to be much more than Sprint and the scrappy underdog T-Mobile were before. In both network coverage and subscriber numbers, it could become a significant rival of Verizon and AT&T. https://www.cnet.com/how-to/t-mobile-sprint-merger-how-to-decide-if-you-should-switch/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190817140102.GA13842@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 17 Aug 2019 14:01:03 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: FCC Enforcement Bureau Settles with CenturyLink Over Alleged Unauthorized Third-Party Charges On August 13, 2019, the FCC's Enforcement Bureau announced that it settled a nearly three-year long investigation into whether CenturyLink included unauthorized charges from third-party service providers on customer bills. Also known as "cramming," the assessment of unauthorized charges is a major source of consumer complaints and frequent focus of FCC enforcement actions. The CenturyLink Consent Decree follows in the wake of a handful of enforcement actions for cramming when accompanied by unlawful carrier switches ("slamming") and the FCC's adoption of new rules codifying its longstanding ban on cramming in 2018. The settlement underscores the responsibility borne by carriers for the chargers they place on customer bills - even for services they do not provide - and the need to maintain safeguards to ensure such charges are authorized. https://www.jdsupra.com/legalnews/fcc-enforcement-bureau-settles-with-84591/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190817134023.GA13574@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 17 Aug 2019 13:40:23 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Wyoming: Rawlins Police Department now offers text 911 service RAWLINS (WNE) - Carbon County residents needing emergency services are now able to text their situation to dispatchers at the Rawlins Police Department, according to a RPD press release.
