But both of these announcements underscore just how much of a mess 5G is right now. AT&T's results appear to be skewed in the company's favor, and Verizon's rollout seems slapdash, with poor coverage even in the areas that Verizon promised. These are just the latest headaches for 5G, which has been marred by delayed rollouts, limited hardware tests, conflicting standards, political wrangling, and more. With telecom companies rushing to be first, odds are the mess of 5G will only get worse as the rollouts continue. If people's first experiences with 5G are this shoddy, why should they trust - and pay extra - for the networks when they do actually arrive for real? https://www.theverge.com/2019/4/5/18296973/5g-e-att-verzion-marketing-hype-speed-tests-rollout-chicago-minneapolis -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190411002103.GA17125@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2019 00:21:03 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Verizon urged to reinstate suspended worker who saved cat By Kate Gibson Thousands are signing an online petition urging Verizon to reinstate a worker with the wireless giant who was suspended without pay after rescuing a cat. Verizon said the employee, Maurice German, violated its safety rules when he used a company "bucket" truck's hydraulic lift to rescue the feline, "Princess Momma," from atop a telephone pole in Philadelphia earlier this month. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/verizon-urged-to-reinstate-suspended-worker-who-saved-cat/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20190411101626.GA19487@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Thu, 11 Apr 2019 10:16:26 +0000 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Wyoming > CenturyLink testifies on December outages By Chrissy Suttles CHEYENNE, WY - CenturyLink representatives testified before the Wyoming Public Service Commission on Tuesday after a multi-state outage disrupted some emergency services in Wyoming late last year. The commission continues to investigate what caused the outage and how to prevent it from happening again. https://www.torringtontelegram.com/article/centurylink-testifies-on-december-outages -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Fri, 12 Apr 2019
