Does that sound like something regulators need to fix? Fortunately, the Federal Communications Commission decided no. https://www.stltoday.com/business/columns/david-nicklaus/fcc-decides-text-messaging-isn-t-broken-and-doesn-t/article_3d7610da-6231-56d7-9b7e-97f5d5bc4c58.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181221213931.GA15178@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2018 16:39:31 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year from your favorite dysfunctional family: Nancy Eshelman By Nancy Eshelman, Special to PennLive Last year, right around this time, I wrote a Christmas letter from a fictional dysfunctional family. Of course, some readers were offended. Warning: If you have no sense of humor, if you were offended last year because you felt I was poking fun at perfect families like your own, stop right here. Go eat a cookie or something. Bah Humbug. https://www.pennlive.com/news/2018/12/merry-christmas-happy-new-year-from-your-favorite-dysfunctional-family-nancy-eshelman.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181221215304.GA15228@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2018 16:53:04 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Apple Releases A New Version Of iOS 12.1.2 For iPhones By Amit Chowdhry Today Apple rolled out a revision of iOS 12.1.2 (build 16C104) as a replacement to the update that was released on Monday. The original iOS 12.1.2 update (build 16C101) was specifically for the iPhone, which contained bug fixes and included a potential workaround for the Qualcomm patents that a judge in China ruled Apple was violating. If you have already updated to iOS 12.1.2, then you will not see the new version of iOS 12.1.2 appear in the Settings app. There is speculation that Apple decided to issue a revised version of iOS 12.1.2 to make some additional subtle adjustments that needed to be pushed out before iOS 12.1.3 rolls out most likely next month. https://www.forbes.com/sites/amitchowdhry/2018/12/20/apple-releases-a-new-version-of-ios-12-1-2-for-iphones/#79fe8f497f9f -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181223002732.GA17941@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2018 19:27:32 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: New Monterey cell tower to be complete by summer, but so far, without Verizon MONTEREY, MA - The long wait for cellular phone service in more areas of town should be over by early summer, with the construction of a new cellular tower. But there is a catch - only one telecommunications company, so far, is planning to put their equipment on this new tower to expand and strengthen the service. https://www.berkshireeagle.com/stories/new-monterey-cell-tower-to-be-complete-by-summer-but-so-far-without-verizon,559796 -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181223003140.GA17961@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2018 19:31:40 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Verizon's Oath Is The Second-Dumbest Corporate Name Ever By Jonathan Berr Earlier this year, I declared that Tronc was the "dumbest name in the history of corporate America." Oath, Verizon's digital media arm that includes Yahoo, AOL and The Huffington Post, is a close second. Oath CEO Tim Armstrong, the mastermind behind Verizon's $9 billion bet on digital media, told Variety in 2017 that Oath was meant to convey Verizon's long-term commitment to the media business. However, the brand never really resonated with the public and Wall Street analysts who were skeptical of the wireless company 's strategy from the start. Given Verizon's current predicament, the name "Oath" is especially awkward. The new name Verizon Media Group, which goes into effect January 9, is a huge improvement. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathanberr/2018/12/20/verizons-oath-was-the-second-dumbest-corporate-name-ever/#4c64eba51f6e -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181223003610.GA17979@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Sat, 22 Dec 2018 19:36:10 -0500 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Verizon Urged to Investigate Reported Misconduct at Memphis Warehouse Workers at XPO Logistics warehouse here, joined by ally organizations, rallied around the country last week to alert Verizon customers of the mistreatment of employees in the company's contracted XPO distribution warehouse in Memphis. XPO employees and members of the community greeted Verizon customers at over a dozen of its stores nationwide last week in an attempt to inform them of alleged poor working conditions and call them to action. Actions took place in Memphis, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Washington D.C., and other large cities. https://www.memphisflyer.com/NewsBlog/archives/2018/12/17/verizon-urged-to-investigate-reported-misconduct-at-memphis-warehouse -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <17a369e0-f748-48d4-a094-3b737e14a997@googlegroups.com> Date: 22 Dec 2018 12:27:56 -0800 From: HAncock4 <withheld@invalid.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Re: Top telco executives make their 2019 predictions On Friday, December 21, 2018 at 4:35:10 PM UTC-5, Bill Horne wrote: > With 2018 rapidly heading toward the rearview mirror, it's time to > take a look at what might be coming down the road in 2019. > FierceTelecom asked a few of the industry's top executives to look > into their respective crystal balls to make their predictions for next > year.
