Orange County residents could have a new option By Tammy Grubb HILLSBOROUGH Just minutes out of town, families are stranded on the information highway, waiting for their Internet service to keep up as they do homework, surf the Web and answer emails. They don't even think about watching Netflix or a YouTube video, downloading large documents or joining an office teleconference. https://www.heraldsun.com/news/local/counties/orange-county/article217913010.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181008140232.GA17649@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 8 Oct 2018 10:02:32 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Commentary: CenturyLink taking a beating in class-action suit alleging fraud, fake stock disclosures By Lauren Ritchie CenturyLink - bumbling fools running a cobbled-together company or greedy executives deliberately "cramming" onto bills services that customers don't want and didn't order? Orlando lawyer Mark O'Mara, one of three lead attorneys in a nationwide lawsuit against CenturyLink, was inclined to believe the argument that the octopus of a firm with 5.9 million broadband customers just didn't have consistent policies and its customer-service representatives weren't well trained. The mistakes were, well, just that - mistakes. https://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/lake/os-lauren-ritchie-centurylink-lawsuit-20180921-story.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181008135918.GA17629@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 8 Oct 2018 09:59:18 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: CenturyLink CFO Sunit Patel to depart for T-Mobile Sunit Patel is leaving his position as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at CenturyLink to become the new Executive Vice President, Merger and Integration Lead at T-Mobile. CenturyLink, Inc. and T-Mobile US made both announcements on Monday. Patel's resignation is effective Sept. 28. He'll start at T-Mobile, effective October 1. https://www.thenewsstar.com/story/money/2018/09/24/centurylink-cfo-sunit-patel-depart-company/1414317002/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181008141755.GA17739@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 8 Oct 2018 10:17:55 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: McKenzie Junction phones still down two months after flash flood McKENZIE JUNCTION - Landline phone service in this area of Custer County remains down for around 40 CenturyLink customers more than two months after a phone cable was damaged during flash flooding. The cable was damaged on July 15 when torrential rain over the Junkins Fire burn scar led to flash flooding along South Hardscrabble Creek that washed out Custer County Road / U.S. Forest Service Road 386, under which the cable ran. "By not having telephone service, my life has been at risk," said Clara Reida, 81, a McKenzie Junction resident since 1965. Reida is on oxygen 24/7 and requires multiple medications. Reida says she had to hire additional caretakers for around-the-clock monitoring for her safety due to the phone outage. "I had no way to contact anyone for help," Reida said. https://koaa.com/news/2018/09/24/mckenzie-junction-phones-still-down-two-months-after-flash-flood/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20181008140703.GA17669@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Mon, 8 Oct 2018 10:07:03 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Unreliable internet impacting Perry County economy NEW BLOOMFIELD, PERRY COUNTY, Pa. - Some CenturyLink customers in Perry County have long complained the service isn't what it should be. After recent storms, some say it's become even worse and the company isn't working to fix it. Some CenturyLink customers in Perry County are fed up with their phone and internet services. https://fox43.com/2018/09/11/unreliable-internet-impacting-perry-county-economy/ -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Tue, 09 Oct 2018
