The developer has offered to purchase the building for $250,000. full article, including slide show, at: http://www.nj.com/mercer/index.ssf/2015/06/plans_unveiled_for_former_bell_telephone_building.html Historical note: Trenton was home to the EXport, LYric, and OWen exchanges. In the original area code plan, all of the New Jersey was designated as 201, however, it was quickly split, with the southern portion being 609. Englewood, NJ, in the northern corner of the state, was the first town to have Direct Distance Dialing in the early 1950s. Today area code 201 occupies only a tiny spot. N.J. State government was an early adoptee of Centrex back in 1962. The original system has been expanded substantially since then. ***** Moderator's Note ***** A seven+ story telco building for $250,000? Ma Bell's buildings were built to serve as fallout shelters, and they have floors that will take the weight of long-extinct electromechanical exchanges. I think someone's getting a very, very sweet deal. Moderator's note: the i-telex site is shown in German. I do not know if there is an English-language equivalent, so if anyone finds one, please let me know.

The many men, women and children who spend their days glued to their smartphones and social media accounts might learn something from Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the groundbreaking megahit "Hamilton." Asked in an interview with Delta Sky magazine when and where he finds time to be creative, Mr. Miranda, an avid reader of books and enthusiast for unfettered downtime, replied: "The good idea comes in the moment of rest. It comes in the shower. It comes when you're doodling or playing trains with your son. 'Hamilton' forced me to double down on being awake to the inspirations of just living my life." http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/09/well/live/hooked-on-our-smartphones.html ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Fri, 20 Jan 2017
