Don't answer that. We have an intimate relationship with our phones. We sleep with them, eat with them and carry them in our pockets. We check them, on average, 47 times a day - 82 times if you're between 18 and 24 years old, according to recent data. And we love them for good reason: They tell the weather, the time of day and the steps we've taken. They find us dates (and sex), entertain us with music and connect us to friends and family. They answer our questions and quell feelings of loneliness and anxiety. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/02/well/mind/the-phones-we-love-too-much.html ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20170503030256.83666.qmail@ary.lan> Date: 3 May 2017 03:02:56 -0000 From: John Levine <johnl@iecc.com> Subject: Re: cellular telco region with lowest "911" and other gov't fees? It's cheap, but it's a lot more than $10/yr. It's a major milestone for Verizon, which Thursday [4/27/2017] reported a net decline of 289,000 cellphone subscribers over the past four months. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2017/04/20/why-verizon-is-losing-more-cellphone-customers-than-ever/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <FDE4F987-E1B9-4B51-A357-DD5AA39893C1@roscom.com> Date: Thu, 4 May 2017 22:04:21 -0400 From: Monty Solomon <monty@roscom.com> Subject: Justice Department opens criminal probe into Uber Justice Department opens criminal probe into Uber The ride-hailing company has acknowledged its use of "Greyball" software and said in March that it would stop using it to thwart regulators in cities where it may be operating without permission. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-switch/wp/2017/05/04/justice-department-opens-criminal-probe-into-uber/ ------------------------------ Message-ID: <5b113b98-015f-446d-ab40-ecd70b6e68db@googlegroups.com> Date: Tue, 2 May 2017 14:28:21 -0700 (PDT) From: HAncock4 <withheld@invalid.telecom-digest.org> Subject: Manhattan gets a new 332 area code - here's why CNN reported that the borough is getting a new area code in the coming weeks. Now, 332 is joining 212, 917, and 646. Demand for phone numbers has grown in large part thanks to wireless phones, according to John Manning, senior director of NANPA. If someone has an Arizona area code and keeps that number when she moves to California, that means Arizona can't give that number to a new resident. Also, a couple decades ago, a household would have only one landline. Now, a household might have a cell phone for each person who lives there. full detailed article, including situation in San Francisco, at: http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/02/technology/new-york-332-area-code-new/index.html ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Sat, 06 May 2017
