I have long been somewhat more skeptical of the prospects for the merger between AT&T and TimeWarner than most. Though my skepticism started to ease when the FCC removed itself from the review process earlier this year, I still argued that there was "a non-negligible chance it is blocked." https://seekingalpha.com/article/4110742-ts-good-news-comes-hidden-disconcerting-admission -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) -- Bill Horne Moderator ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20171003165500.GA32200@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 3 Oct 2017 12:55:00 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Exasperated Puerto Ricans desperate for cellphone service turn to Mexican carrier By Nick Brown and Robin Respaut Reuters FAJARDO, Puerto Rico - Puerto Ricans exasperated by the patchy U.S. relief response to their hurricane-blasted island are turning to a Mexican billionaire's mobile phone network they say has been faster to restore service. Claro Puerto Rico, a subsidiary of America Movil owned by Carlos Slim, has stepped up to a challenge in the wake of Hurricane Maria that U.S. peers like AT&T Inc., T-Mobile US Inc. and Sprint Corp. have been slower to address, residents said. http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/exasperated-puerto-ricans-desperate-for-cellphone-service-turn-to-mexican/article_25ad0489-6c8b-556b-a3f7-0c3193c244e9.html -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my email address to write to me directly) ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20171003155715.GA31778@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Tue, 3 Oct 2017 11:57:15 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: New Groundbreaking Technology Making Landlines Obsolete Clare / 2017-09-26 A little-known technology called VoIP is poised to take over peoples' homes, leaving the soon-to-be-obsolete landline behind.
