More in the article. Makes old SNET territory in New England look positively data-backwater-ish, with top data speeds, near me, of 750 Kbps, a good 5 orders of magnitude (or more) slower. (Details in the URL.) The title in quotes is good bait to use on a Google fly-rod for more info. http://phys.org/news/2016-03-discovery-magnet-capable-dirac-fermions.html Fascinating developments. The complaint stems from Verizon's "Fiber is the Only Fix" program, in which Verizon automatically sets up copper-to-fiber upgrades when customers with copper-based landline phones call for repairs twice in 18 months. Though many customers welcome the shift to fiber because it brings more reliable and faster Internet access, some prefer to keep copper-based landline phones because they can remain in service during long power outages. http://arstechnica.com/business/2016/05/verizon-workers-union-wants-investigation-of-forced-fiber-upgrades/ -- Bill Horne ------------------------------ Message-ID: <20160504182953.GA26719@telecom.csail.mit.edu> Date: Wed, 4 May 2016 14:29:53 -0400 From: Bill Horne <bill@horneQRM.net> Subject: Verizon Strike Update: Day 22 Verizon Strike Update: Day 22, Bargaining Impasse, 'Day Of Action' Planned By ERIC KIEFER May 4, 2016 - Almost a week has passed since Verizon made its "final offer" to almost 40,000 striking workers and members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the Communications Workers of America (CWA). While company and union representatives have conducted recent bar- gaining meetings, no significant action has resulted, according to their reports. http://patch.com/new-jersey/hoboken/verizon-strike-update-unions-pan-companys-final-offer-0 -- Bill Horne ------------------------------ ********************************************* End of telecom Digest Thu, 05 May 2016
