Most answering machines I have worked with, ( I still use a Panasonic) can be set to answer on the fourth ring, FOR THE FIRST CALL. After that they answer on the first or second ring so that if you are calling in to check your messages, you, as the owner of the machine, know to hang up if it rings twice, i.e. you have no messages. Maybe that's what's happening and there's no way to turn off that feature. FWIW. mm
