Subject: Phone Company "Outraged by Fraud and Abuse" in Obamaphone Program Message-ID: <mabme4$hr5$1@dont-email.me> by Brian Maass DENVER (CBS4) - A nationwide cellphone company distributing phones and cellphone plans in Denver as part of a massive government program says it is "outraged by the unacceptable actions" uncovered by a CBS4 undercover investigation. The response from Total Call Mobile comes nearly three months after an undercover CBS4 investigation revealed multiple examples of fraud and cheating in the phone distribution program. http://denver.cbslocal.com/2015/01/26/phone-company-outraged-by-fraud-abuse-in-obamaphone-program/ -or- http://goo.gl/HNR32n -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) Some humans ain't human Some people ain't kind They lie through their teeth With their head up their behind - John Prine

Subject: AT&T to Buy Nextel Mexico for $1.9 Billion Message-ID: <mac2gq$r6f$1@dont-email.me> By MICHAEL J. DE LA MERCED AT&T continued its southward expansion on Monday, agreeing to buy Nextel Mexico for nearly $1.9 billion as part of its campaign to expand its Latin American presence. The deal is the second struck in Mexico by the telecommunications giant since November, when the company bought the big wireless service provider Iusacell for $2.5 billion. http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2015/01/26/att-to-buy-nextel-mexico-for-1-9-billion/ -or- http://goo.gl/kNt4NH -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) Oh, the weather outside is frightful, But the fire is so delightful. Subject: Tons of AT&T and Verizon customers may not have "broadband" on Thursday Message-ID: <mac0ci$lap$1@dont-email.me> New 25Mbps minimum would leave 19% of US homes without broadband access. by Jon Brodkin The Federal Communications Commission is scheduled to vote tomorrow (January 29th) on a change to the definition of "broadband" and in so doing could leave about a fifth of the country without access to service that meets the new minimum standard. At today's broadband definition of 4Mbps downstream and 1Mbps up, only 6.3 percent of US households have no access to wired broadband. http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/01/tons-of-att-and-verizon-customers-may-no-longer-have-broadband-tomorrow/ -or- http://goo.gl/v6qx3z -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky - John Lennon

Subject: CenturyLink wants Congress to update the 1992 Cable Act Message-ID: <mac20m$pns$1@dont-email.me> By Sean Buckley CenturyLink has made a plea to the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee to reform the 1992 Cable Act so new entrants in the video services race can more effectively negotiate prices for content. Emerging video players like CenturyLink lack the buying power of incumbent cable operators like Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA), which have more clout with content owners to negotiate more favorable terms. This means that broadcasters don't have a lot of incentive to offer reasonable terms to newer players, which the telco says "effectively deprives consumers of the benefits of competition." http://www.fiercetelecom.com/story/centurylink-wants-congress-update-1992-cable-act/2015-01-26 -or- http://goo.gl/bPdK3d -- Bill Horne (Remove QRM from my address to write to me directly) Please allow me to introduce myself I'm a man of wealth and taste I've been around for a long, long year Stole many a man's soul and faith - Jagger/Richards
