We must fight spam for the same reason we fight crime: not because we are naive enough to believe that we will ever stamp it out, but because we do not want the kind of world that results when no one stands against crime.  - Geoffrey Welsh

Answer: No. In the North American Numbering Plan, both the area code (NPA) and the central office code are of the form NXX -- where "N" represents any digit except zero or one ("X" represents any decimal digit). No legitimate North American phone number will have a 1 at the beginning, whether it is a ten digit number or a seven digit number. -- Michael D. Sullivan Bethesda, MD

Subject: 15 Digit Number in CallerID Name - Verizon FiOS Digital Voice Message-ID: <l31044$bgf$1201310082350@telecom-digest.org> For several months I have been receiving a 15 digit number in the Name field of my CID. The first charactor is always a "V" and the telephone number is always traceable to a telemarketer. I assume that Verizon is adding this into the name field they transmit for CID but don't know why. It might be that Verizon is identifying telemarketers and is adding this coded name to the CID data.
