I have a couple of added questions: 1. For calls from and to Vonage customers, is there a Central Office "switch" involved? In other words, does the voice path from the originating Vonage customer to the called party "To" number have to be converted to speech and switched in a central office? 2. What regulatory changes have occured in the VoIP world during 2011? 3. I've heard many comments about "SIP" being a less-than-perfect protocol. Why is that? Is there any driver to improve it? Calls to other Vonage customers went back over the net to the other customer, calls to landlines went through a gateway to the phone network. Incoming calls go to whatever CLEC handles the number, and out through a VoIP gateway. My number was an Ithaca NY number, switched by Paetec in Syracuse, and I saw the incoming packet stream coming from Syracuse.
