Subject: U.S. Leads the World in the Origination of DDoS Attacks,
Says CenturyLink Report
According to a CenturyLink report on distributed denial of service
(DDoS) attacks worldwide, the United States holds the dubious
distinction of leading the world as the most common point of origin
for malicious internet activities. Russia and China follow in second
and third place, respectively.
CenturyLink's research is compiled by its Threat Research Labs, which
culls its data from its own internet connections. CenturyLink recently
acquired Level 3, and the combined company owns one of the world's
largest internet backbones.

Subject: Frontier Employees Say Company in Slow, Downward Spiral
by Karl Bode
Just about a year ago, reports emerged that Frontier employee morale
was at an "all time low" thanks largely to managerial missteps and a
lack of adequate resources to do their jobs. The company has been a
rumored bankruptcy casualty for most of 2018 thanks to its ongoing
failure to upgrade millions of the company's customers to anything
resembling the FCC's standard 25 Mbps definition of broadband.
As a result, Frontier has seen a steady exodus of angry customers,
made worse by its bungled integration of ex-Verizon territories.

Subject: Verizon's new parental control app lets parents track their
kids' locations
By Dani Deahl
Verizon has announced that, starting today, its parental controls
product, FamilyBase, will be upgraded and renamed. The new parenting
controls app, called Verizon Smart Family, will allow parents to
manage aspects of their kids' smartphones like content filters and
screen time limits.
Up to 10 family members can use the app, which provides a variety of
ways for parents to monitor how kids are using their phones. Content
filters let you block objectionable websites and content in categories
like violence and drugs, alcohol, and gambling, or restrict access to
certain apps. Parents can also block unwanted contacts, view their
child's text and call history, and check on how much battery the phone
has left.

Subject: AT&T CEO Stephenson says deal needed in content-dependent
world
by Diane Bartz, David Shepardson
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said on Thursday
his company's bid to buy movie and TV show maker Time Warner would
allow the two firms to serve customers better by lowering pay TV
rates, rejecting government arguments the deal would raise consumer
prices.
Speaking in U.S. District Court in Washington, Stephenson addressed
himself to Judge Richard Leon who will decide if the $85 billion deal
may go forward. He said that he wanted to combine what AT&T knew about
its customers with Time Warner's ability to create compelling content.
