Subject: Critics fume after Github removes exploit code for Exchange
vulnerabilities
Microsoft-owned Github pulls down proof-of-concept code posted by researcher.
By Dan Goodin
Github has ignited a firestorm after the Microsoft-owned code-sharing
repository removed a proof-of-concept exploit for critical
vulnerabilities in Microsoft Exchange that have led to as many as
100,000 server infections in recent weeks.
ProxyLogon is the name that researchers have given both to the four
Exchange vulnerabilities under attack in the wild and the code that
exploits them. Researchers say that Hafnium, a state-sponsored hacking
group based in China, started exploiting ProxyLogon in January, and
within a few weeks, five other APTs - short for advanced persistent
threat groups - followed suit. To date, no fewer than 10 APTs have
used ProxyLogon to target servers around the world.

Subject: AT&T promises fiber-to-the-home expansion in 90 metro areas
this year
By Jon Brodkin
AT&T today said it will bring fiber Internet to a few million more
homes and businesses by the end of this year. "In 2021, AT&T plans to
increase its fiber footprint by an additional 3 million customer
locations across more than 90 metro areas," AT&T said. This would
raise AT&T's fiber deployment to about 18 million homes and
businesses.

Subject: Trump's is one of 15,000 Gab accounts that just got hacked
GabLeaks includes 70,000 messages in more than 19,000 chats by over 15,000
users.
By Dan Goodin
The founder of the far-right social media platform Gab said that the
private account of former President Donald Trump was among the data
stolen and publicly released by hackers who recently breached the
site.
In a statement on Sunday, founder Andrew Torba used a transphobic slur
to refer to Emma Best, the co-founder of Distributed Denial of
Secrets. The statement confirmed claims the WikiLeaks-style group made
on Monday that it obtained 70GB of passwords, private posts, and more
from Gab and was making them available to select researchers and
journalists. The data, Best said, was provided by an unidentified
hacker who breached Gab by exploiting a SQL-injection vulnerability in
its code.

Subject: Demand for fee to use password app LastPass sparks backlash
Pay up or face restrictions on access, say new private-equity owners.
By Mark Vandevelde
A popular app that promised to eliminate the burden of remembering
passwords has sparked a backlash by demanding, weeks after it was
acquired by two private equity firms, that users pay up or face
restrictions on access to their online accounts.
LastPass has encouraged millions of people to replace weak passwords
on retail websites, Internet banks and other online services. Instead,
the software handles authentication automatically using long, complex
passwords that are impossible to guess - or remember.
