Subject: Friday Harbor, WA: The 411 on anticipated communications
disruption
Submitted by San Juan County Department of Emergency Management
Both San Juan County and Town of Friday Harbor governments, as well as
local emergency response agencies, are monitoring updates from Rock
Island and CenturyLink regarding next week's scheduled disruption to
island communications services.
Please do not call Rock Island, or CenturyLink to report or inquire
about the outage, or make 911 "test calls" during the event. If you
have any kind of a data connection please do not stream video. This
will tie up backup systems residents are counting on to carry 911 and
other critical calls.
Residents who live alone and use a "Life Alert" type device, consider
staying with a friend or arrange to have a friend or neighbor check on
or stay with you.

Subject: CenturyLink solidifies Asia Pacific, global wholesale
position following Level 3 deal
by Sean Buckley
With Level 3 assets now in its fold, CenturyLink is looking to enhance
its business in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, a move that reflects
its growing global capabilities to address multinational corporations
(MNCs) that have business in the area or need access into the United
States.
Both CenturyLink and Level 3, when they were separate companies,
always had a presence in APAC, but each of the service providers
managed it as an extension of its North American sales organization.

Per Monty Solomon:

Once the device has connected to a phone, does it also link to a
"Real" cell tower and pass through whatever the phone does?
i.e. If one's phone has been acquired by a StingRay box, is it obvious
to the user that something is wrong, or does it look like business as
usual?
