They were shut down some years ago and none of the ground infrastructure
exists any longer.

Verizon CEO dials up comp, stock gains worth over $36M

Lowell McAdam's overall compensation and stock gains rose to about $36
million from about $28 million in 2011, mostly due to a $22.8 million
gain from vested shares. Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam's
2012 compensation fell nearly 40%, but factoring in stock option
gains, he pulled in more than $36 million.

What if, instead of paying for all of the hundreds of channels that
your cable provider offers when you sign up, you could choose exactly
which ones you want? That's definitely a dream of most cable
subscribers, riled by ever-high fees. And while Verizon isn't ready to
start offering a-la-carte channels, a new plan of theirs, reported in
The Wall Street Journal, could take us one step closer to making that
dream a reality.
