Subject: CenturyLink delays annual report to check accounting
weaknesses
US operator CenturyLink announced that publication of its annual
report will [be] delayed after it discovered accounting problems. In a
SEC filing, the company said it discovered internal control weaknesses
in recording revenue and measuring asset fair values, related to its
takeover of Level 3 Communications.
CenturyLink said it is working with its auditor and conducting an
additional review and testing of those processes before finalising its
results for 2018. Despite the delay in the annual report, the company
said it does not expect any material changes to the financial results
disclosed in February. The report should be filed within the grace
period allowed by the SEC.

Public Service Announcement #537: silent days on the ridge ...
By Jonathan Middlebrook
Over the past few years I've resigned myself to the daily phone
assault of robo-callers, cold-callers, out & out scammers, dental
planners, people wishing to speak with Christina (died 1/20/2009),
invalid numbers, service unavailables, dir asst 212, etc. So far this
year I think my highest daily total (8 a.m. to 8 p.m.) is 19 such. I
think 8 is about the lowest.
Whatever the total, each one arrives arrives at a uniquely
inconvenient moment. Pray, my Dear, quoth my mother, have you not
forgot to wind up the clock? Good G--! cried my father, making an
exclamation . . . Did ever woman, since the creation of the world,
interrupt a man with such a silly question? Pray, what was your father
saying? --- Nothing. That's the obvious euphemism which opens the
Rev. Laurence Sterne's novel Tristram Shandy in 1781. You can add a
dozen such importunate interruptions by junk calls in 2019.

Subject: Trump to staff on AT&T/Time Warner merger: "I want that
deal blocked!"
White House staff apparently ignored Trump's demands to intervene in DOJ
review.
By Jon Brodkin
President Donald Trump tried to pressure the Department of Justice
into blocking AT&T's acquisition of Time Warner Inc., according to a
new report by The New Yorker. However, White House staff apparently
ignored the president's orders to pressure the DOJ, and it's not clear
whether Trump ever made any demands to the DOJ directly.
The New Yorker report - titled "The Making of the Fox News White
House" - details Trump's close relationship with Fox and his disdain
for Fox competitors that provide less-glowing news coverage of his
presidency.

I've never had this issue with anyone else before.
They should try to confirm that the order was legitimate. The fact
that they can't confirm the address doesn't mean anything.
This is disgraceful.
I appreciate that they are trying to mitigate fraud. But there is a
right way to do it.
This isn't the right way.
