Subject: more on Verizon's plan to change copper to FIOS
The Philadelphia Inquirer ran another article on the sneaky
methods of Verizon to push customers from copper lines to
FIOS.
"Verizon customers with copper-line phones who call twice in 18
months for repairs - or live near someone who does - are likely
to get a surprise when company techs show up at their door.
They will be told that their "only fix" is to replace decades-old
copper line with high-speed fiber as Verizon won't fix the copper,
according to company documents obtained by the Inquirer."

Personal Notes: Verizon says "it provides a free battery backup
with 12 D-size batteries." But those batteries won't last that
long in a serious power outage--my friends with FIOS tell me
they get about three hours of service and that's it. Also,
the batteries must be replaced every year, presuming the
subscriber remembers to do so.
Also, many subscribers do not have access to FIOS, and Verizon
can not say when it will be available. What are those customers
supposed to do?
It is just sad that the communications carriers are in a race
to the bottom of service.
Comments appreciated. [public replies, please]

Subject: Switch to Frontier causes glitches for some former Verizon
customers
By David Lazarus
Before Frontier Communications took over Verizon's landline phone, TV
and Internet services in California on April 1, the company assured
customers that it would make the transition "as smooth as possible."
For many former Verizon subscribers, it's been anything but.

Subject: 36,000 Verizon union workers are set to strike tomorrow
A contract dispute still hasn't been settled
By Colin Lecher
Two unions that represent thousands of Verizon employees say they will
go on strike tomorrow morning, after negotiations have failed to
produce new contracts.
The unions - the Communications Workers of America and International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers - are planning to start the strike
at 6AM ET. The disputed contracts expired in August 2015 and cover
East Coast Verizon workers "from Massachusetts to Virginia," the CWA
said in a statement. About 36,000 employees are affected by the
dispute, according to a statement from Verizon. The CWA claims a
strike of those workers will result in "by far the largest work
stoppage in the country in recent years."

There once was a union maid, she never was afraid
Of goons and ginks and company finks and the deputy sheriffs who made the
raid.
She went to the union hall when a meeting it was called,
And when the Legion boys come 'round
She always stood her ground.
