Subject: Live Coronavirus Map Used to Spread Malware
Cybercriminals constantly latch on to news items that captivate the
public's attention, but usually they do so by sensationalizing the
topic or spreading misinformation about it. Recently, however,
cybercrooks have started disseminating real-time, accurate information
about global infection rates tied to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic
in a bid to infect computers with malicious software.

Intel SGX is vulnerable to an unfixable flaw that can steal crypto
keys and more Just when you thought it was secure again, Intel's
digital vault falls to a new attack.
By Dan Goodin
For the past 26 months, Intel and other CPU makers have been assailed
by Spectre, Meltdown, and a steady flow of follow-on vulnerabilities
that make it possible for attackers to pluck passwords, encryption
keys, and other sensitive data out of computer memory. On Tuesday,
researchers disclosed a new flaw that steals information from Intel's
SGX, short for Software Guard eXtensions, which acts as a digital
vault for securing users' most sensitive secrets.

Subject: The Case for Limiting Your Browser Extensions
Last week, KrebsOnSecurity reported to health insurance provider Blue Shield
of California that its Web site was flagged by multiple security products as
serving malicious content. Blue Shield quickly removed the unauthorized code.
An investigation determined it was injected by a browser extension installed
on the computer of a Blue Shield employee who'd edited the Web site in the
past month.
The incident is a reminder that browser extensions - however useful or
fun they may seem when you install them - typically have a great deal
of power and can effectively read and/or write all data in your
browsing sessions. And as we'll see, it's not uncommon for extension
makers to sell or lease their user base to shady advertising firms, or
in some cases abandon them to outright cybercriminals.
