Subject: Verizon asks Congress to take over from FCC Message-ID: <mfelun$66h$1@dont-email.me> Verizon's McAdam urges Congress to take hard line on spectrum bidding credits, curb FCC's net neutrality rules By Phil Goldstein Verizon Communications CEO Lowell McAdam wants Congress to take a tougher stance on rules governing bidding in spectrum auctions, and called out Dish Network in particular for its bidding strategy in the AWS-3 auction. In a letter to key lawmakers, McAdam also urged Congress to be more proactive in regulating telecommunications, curb the FCC's recently approved net neutrality rules and rewrite and update the Telecommunications Act. Subject: Vandal attack on CenturyLink cable in Arizona exposes lack of backup systems Message-ID: <mfen77$bna$1@dont-email.me> by Paul Gardner The last-month attack by vandals on CenturyLink's fiber-optic cable in the Arizona desert has exposed the evident lack of backup systems, which incidentally is a glaring vulnerability in the Internet infrastructure in the US. As a result of the attack by vandals, broadband provider CenturyLink's fiber-optic cable in the northern Arizona was sliced last month. Subject: What "Where's My FiOS?" is all about Message-ID: <mfembc$7u4$1@dont-email.me> "Where's My VERIZON FiOS?" - Here's What It's All About by MARTIN BLANC Labor unions have instigated a campaign "Wheres my FiOS?" to put public pressure on Verizon, so that it considers living up to its age-old promise to make high-speed broadband available to all Communications Workers of America (CWA), the nation's largest media union, has started a new campaign "Where's my FiOS?" aimed at delayed deployment of Verizon Communications Inc.'s FiOS fiber-optic Internet and pay-TV service. Verizon had promised to make available its FiOS service in some major cities across the nation. However, Boston, Buffalo, Baltimore, Alexandria, and other major locales are still left hoping that Verizon will eventually consider stretching its footmark in the FiOS market. The carrier's officials keep saying that Verizon does not have any plans to expand in the FiOS market. The "Where's My FiOS?" Subject: Cable competing with ILECs for CLEC business Message-ID: <mfenl2$dnb$1@dont-email.me> By Sean Buckley Cable becomes emerging special access source for CLECs, but trails AT&T and CenturyLink's ubiquity Cable operators are in an interesting position to drive new competition in the wholesale special access market, giving CLECs the ability to connect their multi-site business customers in areas where they can't economically reach with their own facilities today.
