Subject: Riley Storm Recover - Verizon users getting upset
A look at the blogosphere telle me that Verizon users are very unhappy
about the way that Verizon is handling recovery efforts in New York
and/or New Jersey.
One blogger, named "DudleyDorite," complained that
As bad as ConEd was at restoring power, they at least had a
communication system in place to both report and track the
service loss and when it might be restored... does anyone know of
an effective way to get Verizon's attention?
So, it appears that the ire of Verizon customers has not yet started to melt.

Subject: Taos, NM - Internet, phone service goes down after line cut
TAOS - A CenturyLink fiber-optic cable was cut Friday afternoon
between Peña Blanca and Budaghers, reportedly causing a widespread loss of
internet and cellphone service throughout areas of Northern New
Mexico, reaching from south of Santa Fe to as far as the Enchanted
Circle, according to a representative of the Kit Carson Electric
Cooperative's KCEC Telecom.
KCEC Telecom broadband manager Andrew Gonzales told The Taos News on
Friday evening that a Centurylink crew had been "unable to isolate the
cut" before ending efforts to repair the line in a remote area in
darkness. Crews were scheduled to go back out at daylight Saturday,
Gonzales said.

Subject: No, Trump cannot do whatever he wants with the Justice
department
by Jennifer Rubin
On Thursday night, at least eleven former U.S. officials filed an
amicus brief in the lawsuit between AT&T and the Department of
Justice. The DOJ in November of 2017 sued to block the telecom giant's
$85.4 billion bid to take over Time Warner, the parent company of
CNN. The trial is set to begin March 19.
The effort includes Preet Bharara, the former U.S. Attorney for the
Southern District of New York from 2009 to 2017 who was fired in the
early months of the Trump administration. John Dean, a onetime White
House counsel to former President Richard Nixon who became a prominent
figure in the Watergate scandal, is also part of the brief.

Subject: Verizon outage map
The site "Downdetector.com" has a map that shows general areas of
Verizon outages. I was looking for info on what preparations Verizon
is making for the storm now approaching North Carolina, but it seems
that the majority of those voicing complaints are much further north.
Of course, since I moved south of the Mason-Dixon line (does that
still exist?), I've been more concerned with icy roads here in the
hills, but I still wince at the thought of all that snow and all those
trees from the ice storms we had in Boston during the early 2000's.
I'm going out to buy gasoline and kerosene. Stay tuned.
