AT&T Inc. (T) will start slowing the data speeds of customers with
unlimited wireless plans once they reach a certain threshold, a sign
of the industry trying to cope with soaring traffic and limited
network capacity.
Customers will experience slower access speeds if their data usage
exceeds 3 gigabytes a month, the second-largest U.S. wireless carrier
said yesterday on its website. For customers with so-called long term
evolution, or LTE, devices, the limit is 5 gigabytes a month, the
Dallas-based carrier said.

Debt-Ridden CenturyLink Should Follow Frontier And Slash Its Dividend
Debt Issue
While CenturyLink's balance sheet shows significant assets, the
company's debt load has been growing rapidly. A year ago, CenturyLink's
current liabilities amounted to $1 billion. However, this quadrupled,
reaching $4 billion by the end of 2011.
Long-term debt of $21 billion is another scary factor on the balance
sheet. Once we include other liabilities, we get a huge number of $35
billion in total liabilities. The balance sheet shows a total asset
valuation of $56 billion. However, that is not enough to cover the
liabilities since CenturyLink's balance sheet includes 'good will' of
$21.724 billion. Excluding this intangible, the company's existing
assets barely match its overall liabilities.

AT&T's throttling policy is definitely not consumer-friendly, but in
this edition of Ask Maggie, I explain why it's better than the previous
policy.
AT&T has clarified its "throttling" policy for its unlimited data
customers who the company says use too much bandwidth. But many users
are still confused and angry.

I came across this while looking for something else. It's a bit late,
but still relevant.

Embarq/CenturyLink technicians from Winter Park, Fla., won CWA Local
3176 representation, following a Jan. 27 decision by the National
Labor Relations Board that their 60-59 election victory should stand.
Technicians voted on Nov. 9, but certification was held up pending an
NLRB decision on whether a single challenged ballot should be opened
and counted as legitimate. The Board backed CWA's claim that the
ballot should not be counted because it was cast by an employee not
listed on the company's list of eligible voters.

Washington, D.C. -- In a filing to the Federal Communications
Commission, the Communications Workers of America called for specific
conditions on the application by Verizon Wireless to purchase
additional spectrum from four cable providers.
CWA does not oppose the sale of spectrum. We believe that spectrum
should be used and that additional spectrum is necessary to expand
connectivity. However, to ensure competition, protect consumer choice,
and promote job-creating investment, the FCC should set specific
conditions on this application.
