Censorship, in my opinion, is a stupid and shallow way of approaching the solution to any problem. - Dwight D. Eisenhower |

Subject: Brazen Attempts by Hotels to Block Wi-Fi Message-ID: <86B848CC-CE1E-4FF2-846E-F1F2AAF23430@roscom.com> SundayReview | EDITORIAL Brazen Attempts by Hotels to Block Wi-Fi Some large hotel chains want to block guests from using their own wireless Internet devices. It's a blatant attempt to limit customer choice, and the Federal Communications Commission should say no. Marriott International and the American Hotel and Lodging Association are asking the F.C.C. to give hotels the green light to remotely disable the Wi-Fi devices that some travelers use to connect their laptops and tablet computers to the Internet through cellular services from companies like Verizon. This would force guests to buy the wireless Internet service provided by hotels. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/04/opinion/sunday/brazen-attempts-by-hotels-to-block-wi-fi.html -or- http://goo.gl/QIyaDt ***** Moderator's Note ***** For their next move, hotels will demand that patrons turn in their clothing during registration, and purchase the house brand for use during their stay. Alcohol, prescription drugs, and computers will also be sequestered for the safety of the children, with convenient payment options for replacements. If anything in the previous paragraph sounds at all believable to you, be very afraid. Bill Horne Moderator |

Subject: How My Mom Got Hacked Message-ID: <B1FB83E9-E1CD-4B86-A0EA-5ACF28A38CC2@roscom.com> How My Mom Got Hacked by ALINA SIMONE JANUARY 2, 2015 MY mother received the ransom note on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. It popped up on her computer screen soon after she'd discovered that all of her files had been locked. "Your files are encrypted," it announced. "To get the key to decrypt files you have to pay 500 USD." If my mother failed to pay within a week, the price would go up to $1,000. After that, her decryption key would be destroyed and any chance of accessing the 5,726 files on her PC - all of her data - would be lost forever. If Neal reads this, I'd like a signed copy. Bill Horne Moderator |
