We do not even inquire whether a black man is a rebel in arms, or not, if he is black, be he friend or foe, he is thought best kept at a distance. It is hardly possible God will let us succeed while such enormities are practiced.  - James A. Garfield

Feldman, CommLawBlog, February 20, 2015 Spoofing tactic appears to backfire on robocaller. As a public service, we offer a couple of helpful CommLawBlog tips to folks who feel like violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) by making unsolicited prerecorded advertising calls: - First and foremost, DON'T violate the TCPA; If you insist on ignoring Tip No. 1, at least: - Don't call numbers on the National Do No Call Registry; - Don't provide an "opt-out" number that doesn't work; - Don't "spoof" somebody else's number so that their number, not yours, shows up in the caller ID display of the folks you're illegally calling; - And, ABOVE ALL, don't tick off constituents of Senator John McCain. Security First of Alabama (Security First) made all these mistakes, and it's now got $342,000 worth of reasons to regret having done so. http://www.commlawblog.com/2015/02/articles/enforcement-activities-fines-f/more-tales-of-the-tcpa-342k-fine-for-violationladen-robocalls/ -or- http://tinyurl.com/kxullm4 Neal McLain

Subject: Small ISPs make case for Title II exemption Message-ID: <b8819b70-9e32-4984-9aa2-e352bdb2bf18@googlegroups.com> By Brian Santo, CED magazine, 02/20/2015 The American Cable Association met again with the FCC earlier this week to present its case that small ISPs should be exempted from Title II reclassification. The organization said its members are pledged to uphold the network neutrality principles (no blocking, no throttling, no paid prioritization) the FCC wants Title II authority to enforce. Representatives of the ACA, including Ross Lieberman, SVP government affairs, along with ACA legal counsel, met with members of the FCC's Wireline Competition Bureau, to reiterate its argument that Title II would impose "unwarranted and onerous burdens" on small service providers. http://www.cedmagazine.com/news/2015/02/small-isps-make-case-for-title-ii-exemption?et_cid=4426439&et_rid=652835436&type=cta -or- http://tinyurl.com/mzjwzy8 Neal McLain
