This claim puzzled me tremendously because it seems completely at odds
with the current status of the proposed T-Mobile/Sprint merger, which
is not in fact currently on hold in the manner described above.
A bit of digging revealed that the news article in question was
originally published in the Kansas City Star almost two and a half
years ago ...

I've never heard of valliantnews.com, but it appears to be stealing
other publishers' articles and reposting them under the (presumably
phony) byline of "Robert Smith". All those reposted articles get a
dateline automatically set to today, so old news ends up misleadingly
appearing to be current.
Caveat emptor.
