The Polk County Sheriff's Office said 911 landline service for
thousands of east Polk County residents has been restored.
The phone outage, which left about 7,600 customers of Lumen
Technologies, previously known as CenturyLink, without service for
more than 12 hours in the area of Altoona and eastern Des Moines, was
caused by a severed fiber line.
