Subject: Opinion: Shame on the Regulators
By Doug Dawson
It's clear that even before the turn of this century that the big
telcos largely walked away from maintaining and improving residential
service. The evidence for this is the huge numbers of neighborhoods
that are stuck with older copper technologies that haven't been
upgraded. The telcos made huge profits over the decades in these
neighborhoods and ideally should not have been allowed to walk away
from their customers.

Subject: 'Bermuda Triangle:' Charlotte's South End constantly loses
cell phone, Internet connections
By Bria Bell
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Having weak cell phone service and a bad
internet connection is frustrating for anyone of us.
Charlotte's South End, which is filled with apartments, businesses and
restaurants, is known to constantly have that problem. It's something
that's been going on for years according to people in that area.

Subject: Some of the UK's phone number infrastructure relies on
Yahoo Groups, which is shutting down
This is 100 percent true, but don't be worried: they use the group as
an email list.
By Bijan Stephe
Yahoo Groups is about to shut down, and it's taking a lot of the old
web with it. All content that had been posted there will be deleted by
mid-December, and although it will be available for download before
the end comes, the site will be largely shuttered by the end of this
month.
Because Yahoo didn't give the internet much warning, a lot of weird
externalities of the company's decision are being worked out in
public. One that's particularly surprising: the United Kingdom's phone
system actually relies in part on a Yahoo group founded in 2002 -
which I learned about through a tweet.
